In simple terms, it is usually more economical if you do it right the first time.  In very practical terms, there are a lot of different ways to solve your administrative needs with the same packaged software product.  It is probably certain that no two firms would set up your product in the exact same way.  So knowing this, the decisions become: Which vendor will help us build the very best product?  Which solution will cost us the least amount of money?  And of course, when we are talking about IT, there are upfront costs and there are maintenance costs.

How can that be?  Well, it actually costs less to build it right!  It takes a fair amount of experience and a lot of planning, but when you know what you are doing, you can build a product that is more manageable and less costly to support and maintain, with less effort than many firms apply to building their monstrous solutions.
